Seventy-eight rugby league teams descended on Scone Park last Sunday for the Group 21 Rugby League Schools Carnival.
The forecast rain did not arrive, allowing the carnival to go ahead in ideal conditions.
Although the temperature did increase as the day progressed, it did not affect the
quality of rugby league played, nor did it deter the spectators, who enjoyed a great day out.
Players from 14 schools ranging from under sevens in primary school to the open secondary division competed with sportsmanship and school pride.
Carnivals such as these allow players to experience the game for the first time while providing seasoned players an opportunity to refine their skills and improve their games in preparation for the upcoming junior league and school representative season.
Results and players of the match from the finals were:
Under sevens: Scone PS Blue (30) def Aberdeen PS (22) – Tevita Holaafolau
Under eights: St James Muswellbrook (24) def Scone PS (4) – Sean Walker
Under nines: King St PS (16) def Scone PS (0) – Cody Rowe
Under 10s: Singleton Heights PS (20) def Denman PS (8) – Blake Trees

Many volunteers assisted with the carnival.
Wendy Pennell and Debbie Watts coordinated the canteen, and Rod Bowd and his team of referees made themselves available for the day voluntarily, as did Col Burton and his team of first aid officers.
The Scone Lions Club assisted with
cooking the barbecue, which provided 645 players with free lunch.
A donation made to the Lions by Scone Old Boys will assist their fund-raising for other community projects.
