Walk and talk spectacular Mt Royal

27 Jan, 2012 11:15 AM
Whether you are a serious bushwalker or just interested in hearing about the history of a World Heritage Listed area, this weekend there is a chance to experience the amazing Mt Royal near Singleton.

A guided bushwalk will follow in the footsteps of famous explorer Ludwig Leichhardt’s exactly 169 years after he walked the steep climb and experienced the great views.

For those feeling more leisurely afterwards there will also be an afternoon tea and a talk at nearby Callicoma Hill Eco-Cabins by Martin Fallding.

You do not have to take part in the walk to attend the talk.

“Surprisingly, few people in the Hunter Valley are aware of the significance and international recognition of these areas,” Mr Fallding said.

“Mount Royal and Barrington Tops show major stages of the earth’s evolutionary history and biological evolution.”

Mt Royal National Park was listed a part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area 25 years ago.

The World Heritage Area contains remnants of the great rainforests that once covered the entire continent of Australia. This area is recognised as one of a few Australian places of outstanding universal value.

The guided walk is being organised by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Discovery program and bookings are essential on 4320 4205.

Those wishing to attend the talk but not the walk should contact Mr Fallding at Callicoma Hill Eco-cabins for details on 6571 1208 or visit www.calli.com.au
