It is almost time for the coveted Upper Hunter Showgirl silk sash to be draped around a new representative.
Entries are now being taken for the long-standing tradition for any young women between the ages of 18 to 24.
Last year’s winner was Lucinda Sheppard from Scone while Abby Nichols, 17, from Scone was crowned Teen Showgirl and Kelsey Morgan, 17, of Muswellbrook was Teen Showgirl runner up.
The showgirl competition is judged on the entrants overall personality and presentation and general knowledge including Upper Hunter, state, federal and international affairs.
Upper Hunter Showgirl winner in 2008 and now the competition
coordinator, Cloe Tuller said the competition has a lot to offer young women.
“The winner is a representative for the Upper Hunter Show Society,” Ms Tuller said.
“It is a 12-month title and the girls are encouraged to take part in all community events throughout the year such as the Horse Festival in Scone, Australia Day celebrations and even being a scout for fashions on the field at Scone Cup.
“It also teaches the girls all kinds of different techniques such as interview and public speaking skills.
“Plus it gives us girls a chance to dress up a little bit, put on a sash and be the belle of the ball.”
So far three expressions of interest have been made to the showgirl committee but Ms Tuller was hoping for many more before judging takes place at the Muswellbrook RSL Club on March 3.
The 2012 winner will be announced and sashed at the Upper Hunter Show which this year is on March 23 and 24 at the Muswellbrook Showground.
Woman aged between 18 and 24 years that have lived in NSW for the past three months and who currently reside in the Muswellbrook or Upper Hunter shires can enter.
A Teen Showgirl competition for girls under the age of 18 will also be crowned at the show.
The Upper Hunter Showgirl winner receives great prizes and also has the opportunity to represent in the showgirl zone finals for the chance to win a spot in the Sydney Royal Easter Show Showgirl competition.
Entry forms can be downloaded at www.upperhuntershow.com.au or calling Cloe Tuller on 0427 562 781.
